“My passion for plants began with outside gardening, following my mother around the yard as she carefully pruned azaleas, ligustrums, and other shrubs. She taught me the “one true way” to prune (never hedge) your shrubs. Of course there are some shrubs that lend themselves to hedging, but those that know me understand my obsessive desire that all azaleas should be freeform, and pruned only to allow new growth from within the bush. But enough about azaleas.

“I never thought of myself as an inside gardener until the I started buying a few indoor plants, just to see if I could keep them alive.  To my surprise, I did keep them alive, and even the more “difficult ones to grow” seemed to thrive.
